Ms Lena Barbera Principal

Ms. Barbera started with the Department of Education in 1993. She taught Science in Junior High School before moving to Elementary School teaching. She stepped out of the classroom to become a Math staff developer prior to her appointment as Assistant Principal in 2003.  Ms. Barbara spent the majority of her career at PS 261 in district 15 before coming to district 13 to serve as interim acting principal in 2009. 

Ms. Barbera was born and raised in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn. She still lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two sons, who are currently attending college.

Ms. Barbera has a Bachelor’s in Geology, a Master’s in Elementary Education, from Hunter College and a Master's in School Administration and Supervision from Brooklyn College.  In her spare time she loves to garden, read and spend time with her family and two adorable Chihuahuas.
