$10K for PS20 Social Justice Run
+ Family Picnic and Field Day

Thursday, June 1, 2023
9:00am-2:00pm
Fort Greene Park

On Thursday, June 1, 2023, PS20 hosted our third annual $10K for PS20 Social Justice Run, a benefit run at Fort Greene Park to raise $10,000 for the school PTA’s Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Fund. This year, we were excited to invite students and families to enjoy the rest of the day with a Family Picnic and Field Day in the park.

Many thanks and appreciation to Fort Greene Park as well as our event partners Kelvin Coffey and Running to Protest, Futbol Rebels, Brooklyn Basketball Academy, It Takes A Village Youth Services and Mosaic at PS20.

Leading up to June 1, students worked together with their teachers to focus on a social cause under the umbrella of JEDI: issues like LGBTQ+ rights, racial and gender equality, religious freedom, immigrant rights, climate change, fighting hunger and homelessness, etc. What is important to the class? What does the class stand for? On the morning of June 1, the mini-relay was led by activist, runner and PS20 parent Kelvin Coffey (founder of Define New York Run Club and co-founder of Running to Protest) along with other community leaders.

We all know that the many injustices in society are far too embedded and deep to tackle all at once – but just like running, it’s about the individual and taking one stride at a time. With this day of action, we hope to bring more awareness to a variety of issues and engage our corner of Brooklyn, taking meaningful steps each day towards a more Just, Equitable, Diverse and Inclusive world.

If you have any questions you should reach out to your teacher, your class parent, Ms. Colon at kcolon3@schools.nyc.gov, or PTA President David Pristin at david.pristin@ps20.org.

Thanks for your support!
