GET INVOLVED

Start wherever you like.

There's no minimum. Some families come to one meeting a year; others run a committee. Both matter, and you can change your mind at any time.

Come to a meeting

This is the easiest way in, and nothing is expected of you beyond showing up.

General Meetings — third Thursday of the month, 6pm, on Zoom and sometimes in person. This is the whole community: budget votes, updates from the Principal, and whatever families want to raise. If you only do one thing, do this.

Executive Board Meetings — Fridays at 9am. The board meets to discuss current affairs and plan the next events. Every family is welcome to sit in.

Check the calendar for links and dates, and Konstella for last-minute changes.

Join a committee

Committees are where most of the work happens, and where you'll meet people. There are usually fifteen or so, covering afterschool, literacy, green arts, events, fundraising, JEDI, teacher appreciation and more.

Committees change from year to year as families bring new ideas. If none of them fits what you want to do, start one by reaching out to the board.

Be a class parent leader

Class parent leaders are the link between one classroom and the rest of the PTA — sharing news, helping coordinate for the teacher, and making sure new families aren't left guessing. It's a small commitment with an outsized effect on how connected a class feels.

Run for the board

The board is elected each spring by the PTA membership - which is every family at PS 20.

Every position has a one year tenure, and every parent can stay on the board for up to 2 years.
