Summary of the PROSE-UFT Program 🤝

PROSE is designed to empower schools with a proven record of effective school leadership, collaboration, and trust to implement innovative practices and make beneficial modifications to certain contractual rules and regulations.

  • Flexibility and Innovation: PROSE schools gain the freedom to deviate from certain aspects of the UFT contract (like scheduling, and professional development,) to better meet their specific student needs and goals.

  • Shared Governance: The program requires a strong foundation of collaboration between teachers and administrators, ensuring that changes are proposed, crafted, and approved by a high percentage of the UFT members at the school (86.11% of the PS 20 UFT members voted for initiative).

  • Duration: Approved PROSE plans are typically in effect for a five-year term, providing stability for long-term initiatives.

As part of our commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, our school will hold PROSE half days to support ongoing IB PYP professional development for staff. These half days allow our educators to deepen their understanding of the IB framework and enhance classroom practices that benefit all learners.
