PS20 Science Fair 2026
PS20 is happy to announce that the PS20 Science Fair will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026. Science Fair participation is mandatory for Grade 5 and will count toward their science grades. Students may choose to work alone or in a group of 2 or 3 people. Participation is optional for Grade 4 but highly encouraged. Any students in younger grades interested in participating can come see Ms. DโAmato more for info/support/supplies.
We are following all District 13 rules and guidelines for our PS20 Science Fair (note: no volcanoes, sorry!). PS20 is permitted to select 3 projects from our Science Fair to move on to the District 13 Science Fair which is scheduled to take place later in the Spring. We look forward to supporting all of our students in creating successful Science Fair projects!
ISO STEM SPONSORS: We are actively seeking sponsors for in-kind prizes for our Fair winners as well as tabling opportunities for Friday, March 27. Please get in touch with the STEAM Committee at steam@ps20.org

Week of TBD
All 5th graders must complete and hand in their "Deciding on a Question for Investigation" sheet. All topics must follow the Scientific Method and must be approved. Please note that District 13 does not permit making volcanos, as it does not follow the Scientific Method, since students already know what the outcome will be (there will be an explosion).Week of TBD
All 5th graders (& participants from other grades) will receive a tri-fold board for their project.Week of TBD
Come up with an Hypothesis! Ms DโAmato will be checking in periodically with students to make sure that they are on track to complete their project on time.Friday, March 27
On the morning of Friday, March 27 families are welcome to view presentations in their child's classroom. Afterwards, we will host "Open Museum Time" for students to view the projects done by their peers in other classes across the 3rd Floor (parents are welcome but not obligated to stay). Students will be filling out ballots as they view projects for Student & Teacher Choice Awards in up to 10 categories. -
Visual Presentation [PDF] handout from District 13, which is an excellent guide to what should be included on a student's tri-fold board. Don't forget to include an Abstract!
